A “20-yard dumpster” means 20 cubic yards of space — not 20 yards long. Most dumpsters take up about the same driveway space, but their height and depth change. That’s why it’s important to think in volume, not dimensions.
Smaller jobs like garage cleanouts usually need a 10-yard dumpster. Kitchen remodels or roofing? Go 20-yard. Full home cleanouts or big renovations? 30–40 yards. Pick based on how much — and what type — of waste you’ll have.
Going too small often means overage fees or needing a second dumpster. Sizing up is usually cheaper and safer, especially if you’re tossing bulky items like drywall, flooring, or furniture.
